Effects of Vicodin

Many people have prescriptions for a drug called Vicodin. It is important to know that you should not drink alcohol while taking Vicodin as it can cause a lot of issues. Vicodin can be a muscle relaxant, but that can be exacerbated by alcohol.

It can cause plenty of different issues like the heart to slow or problems breathing.

Am I Addicted To Vicodin And Alcohol?

Prescription painkillers are commonly prescribed for those who need immediate pain relief or have chronic pain problems. Vicodin is a strong prescription painkiller. Vicodin is meant to be taken as prescribed by your doctor and all usage should be monitored. This is because prescription painkillers can often be abused.

Make sure you take your Vicodin properly so that you don’t become addicted. Just in case though, there are some common things to look out for when it comes to a possible Vicodin addiction. You may be addicted if you have these symptoms:

–    If you change how much Vicodin each day by yourself without the instruction or your doctor then that is considered abuse. When you use a certain amount of a drug regularly, your body grows tolerant. This means it won’t be as effective, so you need more of it to feel its effects. That means you might try to up the dose yourself but you shouldn’t.

–    You have pleasure and Vicodin in the same line in your head. This means you feel you can only feel good and or be pain-free with Vicodin use. Over time you might not be able to feel pleasure without the help of Vicodin, and this can mean you’ve become addicted.

–    You keep taking Vicodin even after it is no longer prescribed to you by a doctor. Even saving pills and using them later is one of the signs of addiction.

–    You have to drink while using Vicodin. If you can’t hold back from drinking while taking Vicodin, it can really harm you. It is a depressant and slows down your central nervous system.

Treatment For Addiction to Vicodin And Alcohol

All opiates can cause physical addiction. This is because when you use a drug for an extended period, it builds up in your system. You eventually need more to get the feeling you desire, and this can lead to addiction. You feel that you cannot function without the drug in your system.

You may end up needing so much Vicodin to get high that you accidentally overdose on it. When it comes to treatment for something like Vicodin the first step is detoxification. You go to the hospital or the rehab center with medical supervision and just quit taking the drug cold turkey.

Doctors need to be present because detox can cause a lot of uncomfortable symptoms such as withdrawal. Withdrawal is your body getting used to not having the substance you were abusing and can cause nausea, headaches, shaking, and more. Doctors need to monitor in case something goes wrong.

Once you finish your detox, you usually enter the rehab program and follow the steps to staying clean. You get group therapy and individual therapy and lessons on how to reenter the real world.

It is totally possible to get treatment for your addiction, you just have to want it.
