PROCEDURES
FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER
A
Message to Parents
The Bad Weather Policy emphasizes that Macon County Schools will be open for
instructional purposes as often as possible, giving primary consideration to
the safety of the students. School officials will make decisions concerning
the operation of school on the basis of the best information available at the
time. This information includes reports from the NC Highway Department, NC Highway
Patrol, Macon County Sheriff's Department, school officials from adjoining counties,
and reports from local school personnel who have checked the condition of representative
primary and secondary roads.

will operate on a regular schedule. When an announcement is needed concerning
a change in the operation of school due to inclement weather, one of the following
announcements will be made by 6:15 am if possible:
· Schools will operate on a regular schedule.
· Schools will operate on a one-hour delay.
· Schools will operate on a two-hour delay.
· Schools will not operate.
Early
Dismissals
When weather conditions indicate the probability of dangerous road conditions
before the normal school closing time, a decision may be made to dismiss school
early. Early dismissal times will be announced over local and area radio stations.
All schools may not be able to dismiss at the same time. If some roads have
become unusually hazardous, some buses may not be able to operate on the entire
route. Please listen to your radio if you anticipate an early school closing.
Macon County Schools' After School Programs will not operate on days when early
dismissals occur or on days when schools are not operating because of bad weather.
