NC WiseOwl has a new look! You will want to revisit and revitalize your lessons.

The Importance of Secure Passwords

Why are the tech people so worried about you keeping your password secure? Passwords link the user to our network. If a hacker or a student wants to break into our network to change a grade or alter other information, the easiest way is to guess your password.

The Central Office Technology Department makes it as difficult for hackers as they can to prevent this from the server side, but individual security depends on the security of your password. It is extremely important for you to use passwords that cannot be guessed. It is also important that you not write down your password or tell others your password. If a student knows your password because you let them use it to log onto the Internet, then they know it if they want to log onto your gradebook or your email.

If you know that students or others know your password, contact the Tech Rep. at your school. They will contact the Tech Dept. for a change.

NC Wise is Coming in 2005! Begin now figuring out a system for your NCWise password. Your password must be changed every 90 days and you cannot have it taped to your monitor or desktop for referencing. Think of something that will work best for you--it must be a letter/number combo of more than 6 that you can easily modify "and remember."
NCWise newsletters will be sent via email like this tech letter. Be on the look out for announcements pertaining to your school training dates for NCWise (probably October or later). The mandatory training will be at your school but you will want to have plenty of time to make preparations to attend. Most schools will have training times for a one week period for 2 hours daily after school dismissal.
